Burial: 10 May 1853 : John Ridsdale, (63 years, Skelton)
A reading of the gravestone gave the age as 65 years and death as 15 May 1855. I suspect that was a misreading and that the parish record is accurate.

| Notes |
- The 1851 census confirms that John Ridsdale was the father of William as William was listed as a son in the family. William is buried in the same cemetery as John and Mary Ridsdale
Skelton parish records record only one William Ridsdale born at the right time and his parents were John and Mary Ridsdale; and William's first son was named John Robert.
John Ridsdale was 63 years old when he died.
We have not proven that this John Ridsdale was the one baptized in Kirk Merrington. IGI records suggested this match as the date matches very well with John Ridsdale's death data; however, the 1851 census gives his age as 62 and his birth place as Ferry Hill. It is still likely as Ferry Hill is a neighboring village.
The names of the early children were from Parish records. It is possible that I have mixed two families. There is a worn gravestone in the cemetery that reads Ridsdale, died 8 May 1856, age 20. I have not been able to find any 1851 census evidence to identify who this mau have been.
